REBUILT to Last
The proverbial icing on the cake to the end of my 2019 was when a well meaning volunteer across the parking lot somehow gunned her car, in reverse, right through the front brick wall and window of my shop. I wasn’t there, so I didn’t get to hear her story, but the result has been shop chaos with lots of condolences and well wishers on my Facebook photo posts. I’ve also had to be a into preparing a claim for the lady’s insurance company. That’s no small feat, if you know me and my love/hate relationship with gathering numbers. (We’ll see how that pans out.)
The bigger and absolutely glorious silver lining to this debacle is that nobody was in my shop at the time, and Mrs. Nascar didn’t get hurt either. That’s what has kept a smile on my face throughout this minor setback. Or major, depending on your annoyance levels. When nobody is hurt–well, then it’s just an inconvenience.
As I pondered this mishap for the two days afterwards, it became clear how this could and should become the ultimate metaphor for what’s been going on in my head regarding this wonderful biz of mine. It’s a REBUILD. Not a knockdown, but a thoughtful saving and integration of the old pieces (bricks) that are still sitting on a firm foundation, into a bigger better business (rebuilt wall being the tangible symbol) built on a fresh new foundation; strong and sturdy enough to hold up for decades to come. The old and the new are being woven together to create a beautiful, strong, tested, and REBUILT to last shelter for my beloved HomeRoom. Come and join us as we get ready to crash into 2020 and wrap this year up with a sigh of relief, joy in our heart, and a sparkle in our eyes as we look forward to all that’s coming. Enjoy the pics of the wall of destruction.
A little organizing is in order, don’t you think? And just so you know, we’ve come a long way from this view exactly three weeks ago. I must say that my landlords got on top of this that same day. But like all things, closing is the hardest part. Getting back up and running again might be the hardest part.
Thank you for all of the kindness and well wishing regarding this debacle. It has already become a splendid opportunity to grow, spring back, relax, and to look to the future. Those are all very good feelings.
To completely reframe this wreckage, from now through the end of the year, we’re honoring and celebrating strength, resilience, courage, perseverance, badassery, grit, honor, integrity, creativity, building, digging deep, finding our innate tools, and flipping the heck out of a seeming misfortune into a limitless and unexpected OPPORTUNITY for good stuff to take place.
